Mini-Organizational Project – Magazines

magazine organization

One of my goals this year is to get my house completely organized and I’m going to accomplish this by doing mini-organizational projects and I’m going to be sharing them with you.

My first project was to get my magazines organized. I love magazines. I don’t have a lot of subscriptions, but I do buy a lot of them in the store, especially food magazines.

magazine organization before

This is how my magazines looked before. I had a leaning tower of magazines in the corner of the living room. Dogs were constantly knocking them over. I knew I needed to do something with them.

The first thing I did was go through the magazines and determine which one’s I really wanted to keep and go through more thoroughly and which I could just throw away knowing I was never going to look at them. Then I sorted them into categories. I ended up with two categories, food and home.

Next, I had to determine what type of magazine holder I wanted to use. I decided on these magazine baskets from Target. I liked the look of a basket and they seemed more sturdy than the upright magazine holders. In the basket, I placed the food magazines closest to the front with the home magazines in the back.

They came in a pair of two. The other one I’m going to use as an office in a basket, to be shared at another time.

I placed them on either side of my fireplace and they look perfect. I couldn’t be happier and I love how easy it is to now find a specific magazine without knocking over the leaning tower of magazines.

To keep this organized I have a goal of going through a couple of magazines a week.

Do you have a “thing” for magazines? If so, leave me a comment and let me know what you do to organize them.

My magazines are also a mess. Just a not-pretty stack in my office. I need to CONTAIN them before they take over!

We also have a basket for our magazines in the living room. It makes them easy to find and to clean out.

Can’t wait to see what’s in the other basket! And the baskets look beautiful on the fireplace! Such a smart idea.

Love the baskets, they worked perfect. I will have to keep an eye out for some like that.
