Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to celebrate our military, enjoy the gorgeous weather and to celebrate the transition from Spring to Summer. What better way to celebrate than to gather our family and friends and break out the grill. That’s exactly what we did this weekend. We brought some tender baby back ribs and made up a savory Whiskey Honey BBQ sauce. Not to be confused with Honey Whiskey BBQ sauce which uses a Honey Whiskey. I used a general whiskey and added honey to the sauce. This sauce is super delicious. It’s tangy, has a touch of sweetness and a bit of a kick. Fabulous!

3 Tips for Perfect Grilling from Readysetgrill. Check them out for more grilling tips and recipes.

  1. Clean your grill before you start grilling. This helps to ensure you have a good, clean base to cook from.
  2. Keep it simple. A BBQ recipe is best when it’s at its simplest.
  3. Using the freshest ingredients will make your sauces shine.

We chose to grill Farmland/Smithfield Extra Meaty Pork Loin Back Ribs that I bought at Walmart and used my  whiskey honey BBQ sauce. These ribs are so tender that the meat just falls off the bone.  Add the sauce and you have the most tender and juicy but delicious mess. So good!!

How to make the sauce

  1. In a medium-sized sauce pan add the onion and garlic. Next, add the whiskey and bring to a boil. Once boiling reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl add the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, honey, hot sauce and the salt and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Add the ketchup mixture to the onion and whiskey mix and allow to simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Once the mixture is done simmering drain the mixture into a mesh strainer over a bowl. Discard the onion.
  5. Allow to cool. Slather the sauce on the ribs right before you take them off the grill. Save some of the sauce and place on the table for your guests to drizzle over their ribs.
