Blogger Spotlight – Clarks Condensed

*Once a month or so I’m going to be featuring a favorite blogger. As a blogger, I spend a lot of time reading other blogs as well as writing my own. The result of all this reading is the opportunity to meet  other bloggers, some of whom have become good friends. My hope is that by sharing my favorite bloggers that they will become your favorite bloggers too.*

Today, I’m featuring  Katie Clark from Clarks Condensed.

1.       Who are you and what is your blog about?

My name is Katie, a stay-at-home mom, wife, and college grad. My blog is a modge podge of just about everything — while I primarily post recipes, I also post about pregnancy and parenting, thrifty living, and whatever I really feel like! I try to make sure there’s a little something for everyone 🙂 I try and make my recipes easy, and family friendly, and if you could see behind the scenes, you’d always find my son hovering over every picture I take — he loves to help! My husband also contributes, which is fun.

2.       How did you get started blogging?

Well, I’ve always loved writing. When I was in college, I had a blog that I wrote with just my random thoughts, and people seemed to like it. My sister always told me I should start a blog and try to make money with it. I did an internship for healthcaresecene.com, and it was then that I saw the real earning potential of a blog.  About six months before I was set to graduate from Brigham Young University with a communications degree (emphasis in journalism), I attended the Online BlogCon. It was then that I really started thinking about starting a site, and a few months later, I did! I didn’t want to be tied to one specific niche, so I just started writing about different topics that interested me, and I’ve absolutely loved it. As I mentioned, I studied journalism, and I was excited that I was able to use some of those skills from my degree but still stay home with my son.  I love sharing my experiences with others, and I knew blogging would help me do this.

3.       What are your favorite 3 posts and why?

Definitely my “Surviving Pregnancy” series. They are my most popular posts, and I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback about it! I’m actually writing an ebook, expanding on the posts, because I feel like people have gotten real value out of it. Plus, I have a secret dream of becoming a childbirth educator 🙂

Beyond that…it’s hard to pick! I have so many posts that I’ve loved writing. I really loved doing this post on Coconut Oil.

I think my favorite recipe is this Coconut Shrimp with a tangy Greek Yogurt Sauce!

4.       How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging at Clarks Condensed since January of 2013, but blogging in general since 2008.

5.       Tell us about your family?

Well, I’m married to my wonderful husband, Forrest, and we have our sweet almost-two-year-old, Jack. Forrest and Jack are my world, and I feel so blessed to have them. I have five siblings — three sisters and two brothers — and lots of nieces and nephews. Family is so important to me, and I’m pretty lucky to have a pretty wonderful one!

6.       What was your favorite vacation?

That’s a hard one…I love vacations! I’d say Disneyland after my senior year in high school with my parents and little brother. You’re never too old for Disney!

7.       What hobbies do you have?

I love cooking, baking, writing, and sewing. I try to love exercising, but that comes in spurts 😉 I love spending time with my family, being outside and going on nice, long drives in the mountains. I like going to the store….does that count as a hobby?! I love everything about social media! I’m a closet nerd and love technology and electronics — one of my favorite websites is CNET; I’ve been known to watch review videos on there for fun. I love helping other bloggers out — it’s definitely become a hobby!

8.       Do you have a favorite movie, if so, what is it and why?

Oh, I absolutely love the movie, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” It’s kind of cheesy, but I related to it in so many ways. I think it’s one of the only movies I will willingly watch more than once. It had some awesome actors/actresses in it as well.

9.       What does your partner/spouse think of you blogging?

Forrest is 100% supportive — we would absolutely love to make a full-time income from blogging someday. We have a couple of other blogs in the works as well. I’m grateful to have such a supportive husband. We also do some web design, social media management and blog management together, which has been fun.

10.   How do you stay organized with your blog?

Well, I’m not very organized. At all. I use Google Documents for just about everything. I have a running list of ideas for posts. I’m hoping to get a blogging planner soon to help me organize my time a little bit more. I like to use auto-scheduling systems like Hoot Suite, Ahalogy, and DoShare. I’m amazed that I’ve been able to as successful I have without some crazy organizational system.

12.   What is your favorite “guilty pleasure?”

Gossip magazines. Chocolate. You know, the usual.

13.   What is your favorite thing about blogging?

The amazing people — I have met some dear friends through blogging who I am so grateful for! And I’m going to cheat and say one more thing — I love being able to help other people (my readers and other bloggers!) It brings me so much satisfaction 🙂

Thanks for sharing, Katie!!
