Purse Organization

You’re probably wondering what the heck a purse organization post is doing on a cooking blog. Well…I’ve decided to add something different to the blog. I will primarily be a cooking blog, but every so often I will add an organizational post or something else. I like to keep things interesting and I have a lot of interests that I would like to share with you all.

I’ve been obsessed with organizing blogs for years. I am not a naturally born organizer…at all. But, I do have the dream of being much more organized than I am. The one thing that I do have organized is my purse. It just makes life so much easier if your purse is organized.

My organizational system for my purse is a bit different than most. I use Ziploc bags as my organizers and not cute little purses.  Why? Because Ziploc bags are cheap and they are see through, so I don’t have to remember what’s in what bag. Also, Ziploc bags are not padded so they are less bulky to store in my purse.

 purse

My current purse is a Coach purse that I got for half-off at a Coach outlet store in Utah. I love it. I don’t use a lot of small purses or really large purses.  They are always more of an arm purse than one with a long strap. Just a personal preference.

This purse has a large opening with two zippered compartments on either side of the purse on the inside, a zippered pouch on the outside(not shown, I stow a small pad of paper and a pen in there.). It’s the perfect size bag for me.

On the inside, in the center part, I have two Ziploc bags, wallet and sunglasses.

I love this wallet, it’s small, zippered and pink. I got it at JCPenney’s. I tried to find it online and couldn’t. Looks like they have their winter stuff out and I got this back in April of this year. I don’t carry a lot of credit cards or cash so this is perfect size for me.

One of my Ziploc bags hold my medications. I get migraines so I always carry my migraine medicine, also, I carry Sudafed. There is Tylenol and other small prescriptions in the blue container, I have my asthma inhaler and cough drops.

makeup bagmakeup essentials

My next bag for the center of my purse holds my makeup items. I have a slight obsession with lip glosses. I have tons of them and carry no less than 5 in my purse. Why? I have no idea. It’s strange, but something I’ve always done. I also have a couple of chapsticks, an emery board, a hair barrette and hand sanitizer.

business cards and glasses

Miscellaneous items, my sunglasses go in the middle of the purse tucked into the side. There are two separate pockets on one of the sides of the purse. One holds my powder compact and the other holds my business card holder and extra business cards.

extras

One of the side zippered pockets on the inside houses a fan and an extra car key. My guy got me this fan while we were in Florida because I suffer from hot flashes and he thought this would be helpful. Isn’t that sweet???  I don’t like carrying on my key ring extra car keys for cars I don’t drive on a regular basis so I carry it in my zippered pocket.

tea bag

On the other side of the purse is another zippered pocket that houses gum, feminine products and tea. I’m trying to drink less soda, but still need a caffeine fix so I carry tea around and can just order hot water at restaurants.

That’s it. That’s how I organize my purse. Try Ziploc bags if you find mini-pouches to be too bulky for your purse. How do you organize your purse?

Let me know what you think of me doing posts that are not cooking related. I won’t do this all the time, but occasionally.

Enjoy!

  1. I think that’s great! I don’t carry a whole lot with me in my purse and just try to get purses with pockets already built-in. Helps me stay organized with the few items I carry. But, I carried around all of what you do, I’d need a better system!! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I use something similar- it’s called Sugar Snap files. Kind of like sturdier zip loc bags- I love it. I do find that it only works when I put stuff into the right files- I still dig around the bottom of my bag for random stuff all the time!

  3. I thought the idea was great for organizing purses. Mine is the kind in which everything drops to the bottom of the purse. Since you are a “cooking diva,” how about some hints on organization for the cooking area.

  4. I really enjoyed this post! For some reason, I always think it’s interesting to see other people’s purses. lol. I use these little bags I got from Target several times when I signed up for their “free beauty bags” over the past few years. They are small, zippered, and aren’t bulky at all, and it helps me organize things better. I need a new purse though; or, I guess, I should say, a new diaper bag…since that’s what my purse has transformed in (I need a cuter one though!)

  5. This is a great idea. I use Ziploc bags to organize all the time but never thought about using the in my purse. Thanks!

  6. This is my first time visiting your blog. What a useful post! seriously, not being able to find something in my purse is pretty much the worst when I am in a hurry! Thanks for the great post =] I look forward to seeing more from you.

  7. Yay! I’m not alone! I use ziplock bags also in my purse as well for the same reasons.

  8. Love the purse! I need something to keep me organized. I’m an organizational freak but my purse is a mess!

  9. Thanks for sharing such a good idea for purse organisation.
